About This Blog — “Naka’s Wanderlust”

The name “Naka’s Wanderlust” was inspired by Paul McCartney’s song Wanderlust.

The melody is bright and light — the kind of tune you find yourself humming without thinking while out for a walk.

But the lyrics are somehow abstract, and it took me a while to grasp their meaning.

The phrase that stayed with me most was “my love.”

It’s usually translated simply as “lover,” but in this song, I’ve always felt it as a gentle call toward something deeper:

  • Something precious that lives within you
  • An ideal you once dreamed of
  • The urge to set out on a journey — wanderlust itself

Seen that way, Wanderlust feels like a song about a heart caught between the longing to leave and the lingering attachment — and unease — about the place you’re in.

I’ve had a bit of a wandering spirit since childhood, and even now, just before a trip, I always feel a faint anxiety I can’t quite explain.

That same feeling came back when I chose my first job, and again when I considered leaving it mid-career. This song seemed to understand.

And now, standing at another turning point — approaching retirement — I find myself quietly asking: how do I want to live from here? What can I do to prepare?

In this blog, I’ll write not only about my travels, but also about what I’ve felt at life’s crossroads, what I’m thinking and doing in preparation for life after retirement, and the small discoveries that nature quietly offers.

Walking onward — through travel, through the world, through nature — I hope to keep finding and confirming what truly matters to me.
